CVS, Walgreens, ReliOn and Other Store-Brand Meters Included in TRUE METRIX Recall

Many people bought a TRUE METRIX meter without knowing it. The meter may have come in a box with a pharmacy or store name, like CVS, Walgreens or ReliOn. The FDA says the TRUE METRIX recall includes these cobranded versions. But it does not cover every glucose meter those stores sell. Here is how to tell whether yours is included.

What cobranded means

Trividia Health makes TRUE METRIX meters. Some are sold under Trividia’s own name. Others are made for stores and distributors and carry their name too. These are called cobranded or store-brand products.

The FDA says the recall covers TRUE METRIX, TRUE METRIX AIR, TRUE METRIX GO and TRUE METRIX PRO systems, including cobranded products sold under store or distribution partner names.

The store and partner names

Trividia’s product notice lists these names:

  • Care One (Ahold)
  • CenterWell (Humana)
  • CVS
  • Discount Drug Mart
  • Foster & Thrive / Sunmark / Health Mart (McKesson)
  • Good Neighbor Pharmacy (Cencora)
  • H-E-B
  • Henry Schein
  • Hy-Vee
  • Kroger
  • Leader (Cardinal Health)
  • McKesson Med-Surg
  • Meijer
  • ProCure (WynnMed)
  • Publix
  • ReliOn (Walmart)
  • Rite Aid
  • Signature Care (Albertsons)
  • TopCare (Topco)
  • Walgreens

The FDA’s full product list also shows a few other private-label names. Check the full list if your meter’s store name is not shown here.

Not every store meter is included

A store name alone does not mean a meter is recalled. Many of these stores also sell other meters, including other meters with their own store brand. Those are not part of this recall.

The recall concerns cobranded TRUE METRIX systems. The meter or box should say TRUE METRIX, TRUE METRIX AIR, TRUE METRIX GO or TRUE METRIX PRO.

How to check your meter

  • Look for the TRUE METRIX name on the meter, the box or the owner’s booklet.
  • Compare the item number or UPC code on the box with the FDA’s full list of affected products.
  • Use the serial number lookup on Trividia’s E-5 product notice page. The serial number is on the back of the meter.
  • Ask your pharmacist. The FDA says pharmacies and distributors received notices about the recall.
  • Call Trividia at 1-888-835-2723, the number the FDA lists for patients and health care providers.

If your meter is included, read the FDA’s current guidance. The FDA recommends switching to another testing method when possible. It also says to keep testing and not stop using the meter until you have another method.

A separate question from a lawsuit

Owning an affected meter does not mean a person has a legal claim. A claim would depend on what happened, any harm that followed, the records and the law that applies. No result can be promised.

For a full list of the systems and more on the E-5 problem, see our guide to which TRUE METRIX meters are included in the recall.

This recall is separate from recent notices about continuous glucose monitor sensors, receivers and apps. See how the different glucose monitor recalls compare.

This article is general information about how these cases work. It is not legal advice, it does not create an attorney-client relationship, and no two claims are alike. If something here sounds like your situation, the useful next step is a conversation about the facts.
