Case type Sexual Assault & Abuse
Roblox Child Grooming & Exploitation
Roblox is used by millions of children to play, create and communicate. Lawsuits allege that predators have used the platform to find and groom children, sometimes leading to sexual images, sextortion, in-person meetings, trafficking and sexual assault. Families are now pursuing claims that Roblox failed to provide adequate safeguards to protect young users from these risks.
If your child was groomed, exploited or sexually assaulted after meeting someone through Roblox, CBW Law wants to hear your story. Tell Us Your Story.
For many parents, Roblox looks like a game. Children build worlds, play with friends and talk with other users.
But lawsuits allege that some adults have used Roblox to find and groom children. In some cases, an online relationship allegedly moved from Roblox to another app. What started as gaming or chatting then became requests for photos, sexual conversations, threats or plans to meet in person.
Some reported cases involve much more serious harm, including sexual exploitation, trafficking and sexual assault.
Families have filed Roblox lawsuits claiming the company failed to take reasonable steps to protect young users from known risks. These claims may focus on the way users could communicate, age and identity controls, moderation, parental controls and systems meant to detect grooming behavior.
Roblox disputes claims that it failed to protect children. The company has also made major changes to its child-safety systems, including age checks for chat and age-based communication limits23.
The question in a Roblox lawsuit is not simply whether safeguards exist today. An attorney may look at what protections were in place when the child was contacted, how the contact occurred and what happened afterward.
What Do Roblox Child Grooming Lawsuits Allege?
Roblox lawsuits generally do not claim that Roblox committed the abuse. The claims focus on whether the platform took reasonable steps to protect children from predators using its service.
Depending on the case, allegations may involve:
- Age and identity verification
- Communication between adults and children
- Systems used to detect grooming
- Parental controls
- Moderation of user activity
- Reports about suspicious accounts
- Attempts to move children to other apps
- Warnings given to children and parents
- Enforcement of platform safety rules
A predator may spend days, weeks or months building a child’s trust. That can make grooming difficult for a parent or child to recognize while it is happening.
Some lawsuits allege that the design of the platform made it easier for predators to find children, communicate with them or build relationships before moving those conversations elsewhere.
These allegations are being contested. Each lawsuit depends on its own facts.
Roblox Has Added New Safety Measures
Roblox says child safety is a priority. The company has expanded its safety systems over time.
Today, Roblox requires an age check before a user can access chat2. It also uses age-based communication limits, parental controls, chat filters and monitoring systems designed to identify harmful behavior3.
Those current protections do not answer what happened in an earlier case.
A Roblox attorney may examine which safeguards existed at the time of the alleged grooming, what Roblox knew about the account or activity, and how the child and alleged predator were able to interact.
When Roblox Grooming Moves to Another Platform
Online grooming may begin on one platform and continue on another.
A predator may first meet a child while playing a game on Roblox. The person may play with the child repeatedly, offer attention or virtual items, or become someone the child believes is a friend.
The person may then try to move the conversation away from Roblox.
That could include communication through:
- Discord
- Snapchat
- Text messages
- Other messaging or social media services
Moving to another app can give a predator different ways to communicate with a child.
The conversation may then become more personal or sexual.
Photos, Sexual Images and Sextortion
A predator may ask a child for a photo and later ask for sexual images or videos.
In some cases, the person may threaten to send an image to the child’s parents, friends or school unless the child sends more material, money or agrees to other demands.
This type of coercion is often called sextortion.
A child may be scared or ashamed and may not tell a parent what is happening.
The fact that later conversations took place outside Roblox does not necessarily make the original Roblox contact irrelevant. A lawyer investigating a Roblox child exploitation lawsuit may look at the full path of communication and how the relationship began.
In-Person Meetings, Trafficking and Sexual Assault
Online grooming can sometimes lead to offline harm.
Lawsuits and criminal cases have described situations in which adults who communicated with children online later attempted to meet them in person.
Alleged harm may include:
- Sexual contact
- Sexual assault
- Transportation of a minor for sexual activity
- Kidnapping
- Trafficking
- Other forms of sexual exploitation
These are serious allegations. Every family’s circumstances are different.
Should Your Family Speak With a Roblox Lawyer?
A parent does not need to know whether there is a lawsuit before contacting an attorney.
CBW Law wants to hear from families when a child met someone through Roblox and the relationship became sexual, threatening, exploitative or dangerous.
This may include situations involving:
- An adult pretending to be a child
- Sexual or inappropriate messages
- Requests to communicate on another app
- Requests for photos or videos
- Requests for sexually explicit images
- Sextortion
- Threats involving private images
- Secret relationships between an adult and child
- Attempts to arrange an in-person meeting
- Sexual contact
- Sexual assault
- Kidnapping
- Trafficking
The child may not have told the parent everything at once.
That is not unusual in grooming situations. Children may feel embarrassed, afraid or worried that they will get in trouble.
Families do not need to investigate the situation themselves before contacting CBW Law.
Tell us what you know. Our team can listen and discuss the next steps.
What Information Can Help a Roblox Attorney Review a Claim?
Families may still have digital records that help explain how a relationship developed.
Useful information may include:
- The child’s Roblox username
- The other user’s Roblox username
- Screenshots
- Roblox messages or account information
- Discord messages
- Snapchat or Instagram information
- Text messages
- Emails
- Photos or videos
- Robux or other payment records
- Dates or approximate dates
- Police reports
- Reports made to Roblox or another platform
- School records related to the incident
- Counseling or medical records
Do not assume there cannot be a claim because an account was deleted or messages disappeared.
Families should also avoid contacting or confronting a suspected predator to try to collect more evidence.
A Roblox lawyer can discuss the information that already exists and what may be relevant to reviewing a potential claim.
How a Roblox Child Exploitation Lawsuit May Move Forward
Every case is different, but the process often begins with understanding what happened.
CBW Law may ask about the child’s Roblox use, how contact with the other person began, whether communication moved to another platform and what harm followed.
Relevant records may then be reviewed.
If a potential claim meets the requirements for litigation, attorneys can determine the appropriate next steps based on the facts and the law that applies.
Some Roblox child sexual exploitation lawsuits are being coordinated in federal court1. Coordination can help courts manage cases that share common factual questions.
An MDL is not the same as a class action. Individual families may still have their own claims and circumstances.
Will There Be a Roblox Settlement?
It is too early to know how individual Roblox lawsuits will ultimately be resolved.
A settlement is never guaranteed. Litigation may result in a settlement, trial, dismissal or another outcome.
CBW Law will not promise a settlement amount or result.
Our role begins with listening to what happened and determining whether the circumstances should be reviewed further.
Plain English
Understanding Terms Used in Roblox Child Exploitation Cases
Families often hear new words once a lawyer, a school or the police gets involved. Here is what some of them mean, in plain English.
Words you may hear
- Online Grooming
- A process in which someone builds trust with a child to manipulate, exploit or sexually abuse the child. Grooming can happen over time and may begin with conversations that do not appear sexual.
- Sextortion
- Threatening or pressuring someone by using sexual or private images. A person may threaten to share an image unless the child sends more images, provides money or meets another demand.
- Child Sexual Exploitation
- The sexual abuse or exploitation of a person under 18. It can involve sexual images, coercion, trafficking, sexual contact or other forms of abuse.
- Trafficking
- The exploitation of a person through certain prohibited conduct. Cases involving minors and commercial sexual activity are treated differently under federal law and may not require proof of force, fraud or coercion4.
- MDL
- MDL stands for multidistrict litigation. Federal lawsuits that share factual questions can be transferred to one court for coordinated pretrial proceedings. An MDL is not the same as a class action.

Questions
Roblox Lawsuit Frequently Asked Questions
The questions parents ask first, answered in plain English.
Does everything have to happen on Roblox?
No. Allegations involving online grooming often describe contact that began on one platform and later moved to another. If your child met someone through Roblox and the conversation later moved to Discord, Snapchat, Instagram, text messages or another service, the original contact may still be important.
What if my child willingly talked to the person?
Grooming is often based on building trust. A child may believe the person is a friend and may not understand the person’s intentions. An attorney reviewing the situation can look at the child’s age, the other person’s conduct and how the relationship developed.
What if my child sent the photos?
Parents should not assume that this prevents them from seeking help. Children can be manipulated, pressured or threatened into sharing images. The circumstances surrounding the request and what happened afterward can matter.
What if the messages have been deleted?
Do not assume there is no potential claim. Other records may still exist, including account information, screenshots, emails, payment records, reports or information held by a platform.
What if we never reported it to Roblox?
A prior report is not required just to speak with CBW Law. Tell us what happened and what information you have.
What if the person who contacted my child was another minor?
Tell us what you know. Online identities and ages are not always what they appear to be. The facts should be reviewed before assumptions are made about who was behind an account.
How much is a Roblox lawsuit worth?
There is no standard value for a Roblox lawsuit. The facts, alleged harm, available evidence, applicable law and outcome of the litigation can all affect a claim. No attorney can promise a settlement or specific result.
How long do families have to file a Roblox lawsuit?
Deadlines can vary based on the facts, the type of claim and the law that applies. Families should not assume that too much time has passed without speaking with an attorney about their circumstances.
